[LISTEN] Mabuza: Electricity shortage a sign of growth
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Deputy President David Mabuza believes the country’s load-shedding problem should be seen as a sign of growth.
Mabuza answered questions in the National Assembly on Wednesday.
Democratic Alliance (DA) chief whip John Steenhuisen accused Mabuza of not paying sufficient attention to the Eskom crisis.
Mabuza replied: “The shortage of electricity is a sign of growth.
“South Africa’s economy is a very big economy, especially in Africa. It is a very diversified economy, and it’s growing. We are bound to have challenges. These challenges are very positive because they propel our growth.”
The controversial Gupta family, allegedly running Eskom from behind the scenes, has been fingered as a possible reason for the electricity crisis.
These claims have been made at the state capture commission.
“Yesterday electricity was only given to a few people and today electricity is given to millions of people,” said Mabuza.
“Of course as we grow we are going to encounter challenges of growth – but what is important, if I can go back to question, how do we prepare this country for the next revolution?”
