The ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held a special meeting on Monday in Irene to discuss progress in its provincial and regional structures.

The High Court in Johannesburg reserved judgment on Monday, after disgruntled members in the Eastern Cape approached the court to force the NEC to implement a recommendation from the Sbu Ndebele report.

The report recommended that the provincial executive committee led by Oscar Mabuyane be disbanded until an elective conference could be held.

A disgruntled group in KwaZulu-Natal also approached the courts last week in an attempt to interdict the provincial elective conference from being held.

“We are dealing with the court cases because we have said to our members 'exhaust internal processes'. We are at a stage where we are going to say to members who have not exhausted internal process and heading to a court that it stops here. But we are allowing people and educating them politically, there will be a final decision that says it stops here,” the party’s general-secretary Ace Magashule told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting.

Magashule said they believe KZN will hold its conference soon.

Discussions on a successor to North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo are still ongoing.
