A man claiming to be in possession of a bomb has been arrested at Menlyn Maine Shopping Centre in Pretoria East on Tuesday.
Brooklyn police spokesperson Colette Weilbach says the man handed a note to a bank teller at an Absa branch claiming to be in possession of a bomb.
The shopping centre was evacuated and the man, who was in possession of a firearm, taken into custody.
The police’s bomb disposal and K9 units were called out to inspect a device which was found.
“The man will be charged with contravention of the Explosive Act No 26 of 1956 for making a false threat,” says Weilbach.
“He will appear in the Hatfield Community Court soon.”
