Updated | By Eva Chipa
The University of Cape Town’s Liberty Institute of Strategic
Marketing has published data relating to the coronavirus lockdowns and it’s
impact on South Africans.
Head of Projects Dr James Lappeman says the research was aimed at understanding which groups were being affected by the lockdown and the subsequent job losses.
“One of things were very interested in is looking a little bit deeper into the numbers that were coming out from Stats SA, numbers like a million jobs lost. We wanted to know a little bit deeper where these jobs are being lost, was it in the middle class or the wealthier segements?”
According Dr Lappeman, the middle class have been affected tremendously as they play an important role in helping families in poorer segments of the population.
