LISTEN: Miners head to court over Marikana report
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile

Their Lawyer, Andries Nkome says his clients believe the Presidency is taking too long to release the report in an effort to protect people who could be implicated.
“Our clients do not think that it is a coincidence that the North West Police Commissioner will be retiring at the end of the month and the National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega has reportedly been offered a job elsewhere. That is why they want this report released urgently,” he says.
Nkome says in August it will be three years since the incident and the President received the report two months ago and nothing has been done.
The Presidency has rejected the reports that the retirement of the North West Police Commissioner has anything to do with the processing of the Marikana report.
Presidency spokesperson Harold Maloka says the President does not manage careers of Provincial Police Commissioners and has nothing to do with the reported retirement.
“Linking the President to this matter and insinuating that it could be linked to the processing of the Marikana report by the President is malicious and mischievous,” he says.
Maloka also denied allegations that the President has met with National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega to offer her an alternative position elsewhere.
