The official Miss South Africa twitter
account has announced that Lalela Mswane will be going to Israel to compete in
Miss Universe.
Mswane will be attending the 70th Miss Universe Pageant in Israel’s resort town of Eilat near Jordan on Monday 13 December.
Spokesperson for Africa4Palestine Tisetso Magama says by Mswane by attending the pageant, she will be questioned on her stance for human rights.
“She will lack legitimacy in the eyes of many as they will question her own commitment to human rights, because she had allowed herself to be painted into a corner and hasn’t have the courage to speak out.”
Magama believes Mswane is setting herself to become the most controversial Miss SA in the country’s 27-year democracy.
“It’s going to be mixed bag for Miss South Africa herself, in post-apartheid South Africa. She’s going be the most controversial Miss South Africa, and may suffer from legitimacy deficit.
However, it's not clear if she'll be allowed into the country, as Israel is set to ban foreigners from entering the country for 14 days to halt the spread of the new Covid-19 strain Omicron.
