The Jacaranda FM News team has been covering the hotly contested Conference that kicked off at Nasrec in the south of Johannesburg on Friday.
On Sunday night, Van der Walt says it became even more clear that any leader of the ANC effectively serves two masters - his or her political party and its internal dynamics - and the people of South Africa.
And the interests of the average South African are not necessarily the same as the priorities of those in proximity to any form of power within the ANC.
Ask the average South African what should top the agenda at the conference - you would in all probability get answers such as crime, gender-based violence, the energy crisis, education, or the country’s struggling healthcare system.
But in all honesty, and this is something even the ANC would admit to, policy and thrashing out plans to solve the country’s crises is not why the delegates are gathered at Nasrec.
They are there to sort out the leadership - and divide the spoils of victory.
