LISTEN: NFP heads to court over election results

The National Freedom Party (NFP) will approach the Pietermaritzburg High
Court on Thursday afternoon to interdict the announcement of the local
government elections.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is set to announce the final election results on Thursday evening.
NFP secretary general Canaan Mdletshe believes there were some irregularities at eDembe in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to the IEC the party won six wards, but the party insists it should be in control of seven.
“We wrote to IEC yesterday (Wednesday) lodging a formal complaint that we are not happy with the results we got in eDembe, because in our own assessment and own counting we won seven out of 10 wards, but the IEC came and said we won six.
“We are confused as how this is possible. Therefore, we are going to court to halt the announcement of the results tonight because we want a recount of votes in ward 1 and 3 because that is where we feel that we were robbed,” said Mdletshe.
