[LISTEN] Parent horrified at alleged racism at NW school

A North West parent has described an incident where her child was apparently separated from white children in a classroom as 'appalling'.

Wednesday was supposed to be a joyful occasion for parents as their children started the new school year.
The parent, who preferred to remain anonymous, painted a grim picture of what transpired after she dropped of her 6-year-old at Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke.
"It's very disturbing. My son still has 7 years in that school. It's very disturbing," the mother told Jacaranda FM News.
A photo of the grade R classroom depicting how three black children were allegedly separated from their white counterparts has spread like wildfire on social media.
"They created a group parents and teachers group chat on WhatsApp last year. Around 9 o'clock the class teacher posted the picture saying they are settling well at school."
She says an updated version with a different seat layout was sent moments later when black parents called the school's principal.
The North West Education Department has condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms.
"We are investigating and on Thursday morning the MEC will be visiting the school," says spokesperson Freddy Sepeng.
