The  39-year-old was shot and killed, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend, at Mofolo in Soweto on Wednesday.

Mother-of-three Mbuyisa and her 19-year-old son were on the way to work when her ex-boyfriend allegedly accosted them as they were catching a taxi.

Mbuyisa was shot twice and died on the scene.

Nkosi-Malobane and Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza visited Mbuyisa’s family on Friday.

“After numerous cases were opened and no action was taken against this perpetrator. The family raised it with me four months ago and I took it up with the police leadership, the family decided to move her from Ennerdale to Soweto just to make sure she is safe. Unfortunately, she lost her life and if he was arrested after all those cases that were registered at the Ennerdale Police Station we could have saved her life,” said Nkosi-Malobane.

The suspect has since been arrested.

Mbuyisa’s cousin, Themba Mazibuko, told the media that the family lives in fear.

“We thank the government, the media and the community for their support because everyone in the house we feared that guy. Could you please help us and ensure he does not get bail? We are left with his kids and I don’t know what to do because all of them want to stay with me and I don’t have strength. Pease make sure he rots in jail."

Nkosi-Malobane says she is awaiting a report from the Ennerdale Police Station on the failure to arrest the suspect even after previous charges of assault were laid against him.

"I will make sure that when the report comes out I will make it public."
