LISTEN - Racists should not to vote for DA: Maimane
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Democratic Alliance Leader Mmusi Maimane on Monday said people who are racist should not vote for the DA.
Maimane delivered a speech at the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg on identity and race within the party and the country.
He said the party wants to introduce an anti-racism pledge for every new member of the main opposition.
Maimane said the country tried to look beyond our differences when South Africa became a democracy in 1994 through the leadership of former president Nelson Mandela, but 21 years later we find that we don't really know each other at all.
He said racism demeans us and tears us apart and despite it being a difficult conversation, it is one we can no longer afford not to have.
Maimane made it clear that anyone who is racist, was not welcome in the DA.
