She says they are happy with the new regulations on isolation.

Minister in the Presidency Mondlu Gungubele announced on Monday that Cabinet has approved the scrapping of the required 1-meter social distancing at schools.

The adjusted regulations include not having to isolate if you test positive for Covid-19 but have no symptoms.

The no-isolation rule also applies to those who have no symptoms after coming into contact with those who tested positive.

Coetzee explains that there is a difference between testing positive and being sick.

“If you are positive and don’t have any symptoms, you’re not sick, you are positive. We keep on saying that you only test if you have symptoms.

“We know what we need to do. For the past two years we’ve been talking about the non-pharmaceutical interventions.”

Coetzee says since the country has exited the 4th wave non-pharmaceutical practices, including vaccination, are key to countering any resurgence in the virus.

“Government didn’t take away the mask or social distancing for the general public, the one meter (rule) was scrapped for schools due to capacity.”
