Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Grace Langa says they are investigating the case of death as a result of police action.

“It is alleged that on Friday members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) members from Vanderbijlpark received information about a wanted suspect who was accused of murdering a woman then raped his own girlfriend and brutally assaulted her the day before.”

Langa says police then received information from a man who told them that the wanted suspect arrived at his place looking for the girlfriend.

“When he didn't find the girlfriend he then threatened the man (who was in the house with his family) that he was going to burn down their house because he accused them of selling him to the police.”

The South African Police Service (SAPS) stationed two officers outside the house after realising that the family was traumatised and terrified.

Langa says the suspect did indeed return to the house while the police officers remained on duty to guard the family.

“The Sergeant opened the door and found the suspect holding a knife in his hand.”

The police officer instructed him to drop the knife; however, he charged towards the Seargent.
