Litter costs ratepayers millions
Updated | By Samkele Maseko
The cost of litter is high in Johannesburg.
Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba has launched the AreSebesteng clean-up campaign in Yeoville.
He says litter costs the city and ultimately ratepayers millions a year.
Mashaba says a clean city is central to attracting investment and job creation.
He is adamant communities need to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their areas.
The mayor also says that he hopes Joburg communities will embrace the campaign, as it is central to the cities' plans.
He called on all community leaders to be a forefront of keeping the city clean.

We need to keep our own homes, business, schools, neighbourhoods, etc. clean. This is unacceptable. #AReSebetseng🗑️ pic.twitter.com/LaTh36legA
