LIVE: Gauteng Provincial Budget 2016
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
The Gauteng MEC for Finance, Barbara Creecy, will present the 2016/17 Gauteng Provincial Budget to the Legislature on Tuesday.
The tabling of the provincial budget comes amid a tough financial climate.
It also comes one day after global politics and economic risk consultants at Control Risk released a report on the biggest risks facing South Africa in 2016.
Control Risk warned that junk status was a reality for the South African economy in 2016.
Creecy's budget also comes ahead of what is said to be a tough battle at the polls in this year's local government elections.
The province remains the country's economic power hub contributing 25% to the South African GDP.
The amount of job seekers streaming into Gauteng continues to grow, putting pressure on services and infrastructure.
Education and health was again expected to receive the biggest piece of the budget pie.
Improvements to public transport and the revitalisation of the township economy will also be closely watch items when Creecy delivers her budget.
