Load shedding to continue over long weekend

South Africans will not be spared from load shedding over the coming long weekend, Eskom announced on Wednesday.

The embattled power utility said it will implement varying stages of load shedding, up to stage 4, between Thursday and Sunday.

“Over the past 24 hours a generation unit at Kriel Power Station was returned to service,” said Eskom’s interim spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.

“In the same period, a generating unit each at Camden and Duvha power stations were taken offline for repairs. The delays in returning a unit to service at Kendal and two units each at Kriel and Tutuka power stations contributed to the current capacity constraints. The team is working around the clock to ensure that generating units are returned to service as soon as possible.”

The announcement comes as former Eskom CEO Andre De Ruyter appeared before Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts on Friday to detail corruption allegations he made in a television interview earlier this year.
