Loadshedding to be suspended on Sunday and Tuesday
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Power utility Eskom says it will suspend loadshedding during the day on Sunday and Tuesday.
However, for the rest of what is considered a long weekend by many, South Africans can expect “varying stages” of power cuts.
“Due to some recovery in generation capacity over the past 48 hours and lower expected demand, loadshedding will be reduced to Stage 1 from 05:00 on Saturday until 16:00,” says Eskom interim spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.

‘Thereafter, loadshedding will be increased to Stage 2 until 05:00 on Sunday. Loadshedding will be suspended on Sunday between 05:00 and 16:00. Thereafter, Stage 1 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 on Sunday until 16:00 on Monday.”
Mokwena adds that loadshedding will again be suspended on Human Rights Day.
“Stage 2 loadshedding will be in force from 16:00 on Monday until 05:00 on Tuesday. Loadshedding will then again be suspended from 05:00 on Tuesday until 16:00, thereafter Stage 2 will be implemented until further notice.”
