Lungile Nxelelwa has been sentenced two life sentences by the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court for the rape and murder of his girlfriend Keneilwe Pule.
Pule was raped and murdered at Evaton in Sobokeng in 2019.
The court found that Nxelelwa raped and killed Pule with a grinder before torching her body.
On Tuesday during sentencing, the court found that Pule showed no remorse for his actions.
"We are satisfied with the verdict, what the judge did was to send a really strong message to society that if you commit such a horrendous act to a woman the justice system will catch with you and you will be sentenced to life," said the acting head of the Gauteng Department of Social Development Sipho Thanjekwayo.

"We are hoping that this sentence will send a message to other young men out there that they should respect women and children instead of abusing and killing them."
