Lungisa to resign by Thursday
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Andile Lungisa has until Thursday to resign as the chairperson of the ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Lungisa was elected earlier this month, despite ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe saying it would be unconstitutional for him to serve on other higher structures of the party, when he is already serving on lower structures.
Lungisa has now been sent a letter from the Eastern Cape Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), demanding that he steps down.
ANC Eastern Cape Provincial Secretary Oscar Mabuyane says the decision was from the provincial officials who were enforcing decisions from the ANC's top 6 leaders.
Gwede Mantashe charged Lungisa earlier this month after he disregarded the ANC's constitution by accepting his election and appointment as Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) chair.

In a letter, seen by Jacaranda FM News, Lungisa told Mantashe that the decision to remove him must be taken by the party's National Executive Committee. This decision is still pending.
Mabuyane says he hopes that Lungisa will respond to the letter either today or tomorrow.
