M1 fire: City Power to give restoration update on Friday
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
City Power has restored electricity supply to Metro Centre, Liberty Life, Braampark and other office buildings in the Braamfontein area.

This comes after an underground fire broke out in one of the tunnels underneath the M1 on Wednesday, which plunged several nearby areas into darkness.
Areas still without power include Braamfontein, parts of the CBD, Newtown, Parktown and surrounds.
The cause of the fire is suspected to be attempted cable theft and vandalism.
“We will start to work towards supplying restoration after the tests to assess the gas levels in the tunnels. City Power will then start clearing the rubble and assessing the extent of the damage caused by the fire on the electricity infrastructure,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
“All this will be determined later today and we will be able to inform the customers as to when they will have electricity.”
