M2 to re-open in November

Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba has announced that the M2 highway will re-open on November 4.

A part of the busy highway was closed in August 2018 due to the multi-million rand repairs and maintenance work.

The work was done after the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) realised that parts of the support structures on the M2 bridge moved and were affecting the structural stability.

Mashaba's spokesperson Olebogeng Molatlhwa says the repair work of the section of the M2 highway will be completed on October 30 as planned.

"A ceremony will be held to mark this important occasion, at which point an operational plan will be announced and rolled out over the weekend to ensure that the motorway is fully operational and opened to motorists by November.”

The M2 is one of the main motorways which link the N3 and M1 with the city and the western parts of Johannesburg.

Mashaba is expected to visit the site before the lanes are re-opened.
