Mabuza condemns Soweto violence, looting
Updated | By Thabo Tshabalala
Deputy President David Mabuza
answered questions in the National Assembly on Thursday.
Three people were killed and 27 arrested following violent clashes between foreign national shop owners and Soweto residents.
The residents claim the shop owners produce illicit goods and sell expired products in the townships
“The problem was that these shops are selling expired goods, now I asked myself if these shops are selling expired goods why are people looting these expired goods and taking them to their homes?” Mabuza asked.
The deputy president said most foreign shop owners are successful because they live in a foreign country and are compelled to know each other and work with each other.
“These people are successful because they come together. First of all they are in a foreign country and they are compiled to know each other and to work together. That is what makes them successful but the question that we have to ask is are they here legally and do they have the right to trade.”
