Mabuza will be president by Christmas, claims Malema

EFF leader Julius Malema believes Deputy President David Mabuza will become head of state by Christmas.
Malema made the claim at a media briefing at the EFF headquarters in the Johannesburg CBD on Monday.
“There’s nothing wrong with DD, and as a result just be ready. Tighten your seatbelts, it’s unavoidable. We are likely to eat beetroots Christmas Day with DD as the president,” said Malema.

The comments by Malema come amid uncertainty over the political future of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
MPs in the National Assembly will on Tuesday debate and vote on the independent panel’s report on Phala Phala, which could ultimately lead to the president’s impeachment.
Last week, a report from the section 89 panel, chaired by retired chief justice Sandile Ngcobo, found that Ramaphosa has a case to answer for the theft of foreign currency from his farm in 2020.
The ANC has reportedly told MPs not to vote in favour of the report, but it remains unclear if the president’s political opponents within the party will heed the call.
The ANC’s national working committee met over the weekend to process the report, with the national executive committee convening on Monday to draft the governing party’s response to the report.
