Mac Maharaj celebrates 80th birthday
Updated | By sibahle motha

"Reaching the age of 80 is a remarkable milestone," President Jacob Zuma said in a statement wishing Maharaj a happy birthday.
"He has had an eventful life and has contributed immensely to this country and to creating a better life for all our people. Even at the age of 80 he continues to dedicate himself to building a better society. "
Maharaj has announced that he will be retiring at the end of this month, saying he needed to slow down.
He has been Zuma's spin doctor and special adviser since 2011.
Harold Maloka, deputy director-general in the Government Communication and Information System, will be acting spokesperson from May.
"We cannot imagine Mac not doing anything at all," said Zuma.
"He will still find a way to contribute to the life of our country in retirement as he has done all his life."
