Madibeng draws up payment plan for reinstatement of water supply
Updated | By Eva Chipa
Madibeng Local Municipality in North West has drawn up a payment plan to
pay back its debt of over R240 million owed to the City of Tshwane.
Earlier this week Tshwane began implementing water flow restrictions after the municipality failed to respond to its demands to start repaying its debts.
The city’s Sipho Stuurman says an agreement has now been reached.
“The Madibeng Local Municipality accepted the payment proposal over bulk water account and requested that water restriction be kept at 50% level.
“As part of the conditions set, the city required a minimum payment of R10,000,000 on or before 31 August towards the water arrears, pay the water current account in full each month on time and pay additional minimum of R6 million each month going forward.”
