Madonsela thanks SA for award

"Public Protector Thuli Madonsela wishes to express gratitude to the people of South Africa for the value they continue to place on the modest efforts of her office," Madonsela's spokeswoman Kgalalelo Masibi said in a statement.

"She is grateful to ANN7, the judging panels, and the people of South Africa who voted for her."

The award was presented in Johannesburg on Saturday night, and Masibi accepted it on her behalf.

"The award confirms to the public protector team... that they are part of a critical mass that is committed to ensuring a state that is accountable, operates with integrity and responsiveness at all times," said Masibi.
