Mahumapelo vows to expose 'political agenda'
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Embattled North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has refuted reports that he has tendered his resignation.
He says he was asked by the African National Congress' (ANC) provincial executive committee (PEC) to sit tight ahead of several closed-door meetings set to take place on Wednesday.
"My structure then said that I must wait a bit because I didn't consult with the provincial executive committee. I am here now to listen to what the PEC is going to say because they are the ones who I account to," Mahumapelo told the media in Mahikeng early on Wednesday.
Confusion reigned on Wednesday after the ANC in North West seemed to confirm his exit in a statement.
But Mahumapelo says he will now communicate his decision as soon as the PEC provided clarity on the way forward.
He again reiterated his belief that there was a political agenda behind the violent protests that erupted in the province two weeks ago.
He says he'll soon explain "how this political agenda was planned, concocted, its genesis and how it found its expression in the motion of no confidence by the EFF, and where we are now. The EFF is out of the picture."
A small group of supporters threatened on Wednesday to derail next year's elections if Mahumapelo is shown the door.
