MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and CoGTA Lebogang Maile says it shouldn't be that easy to postpone a council meeting.

De Gama postponed proceedings on Thursday due to what he described as a lack of clarity on the voting procedures in council.

Maile maintains that everyone who was supposed to be in that meeting was present and therefore the reasons for the postponement are unclear.

"We had Cogta officials present at the council meeting as well as the IEC (Independent Electoral Commission) so there was no excuse to postpone the meeting.”

Members of the council could not agree on what constitutes a majority vote when it comes to numbers in council, with most saying a majority is 50% + 1%.

The meeting is expected to take place on the 4 and 5 December.
