DA leader Mmusi Maimane has reiterated his call for voters to honour the spirit and legacy of Nelson Mandela and vote for change on the 3rd of August.
The official opposition held its final rally in Maimane’s home township of Dobsonville Soweto today.
Maimane says voters do not need to join the party, only to put their cross next to the official opposition. He also accused the ANC of abandoning the people under the leadership of Jacob Zuma.
Maimane addressed some 25 000 supporters in Dobsonville ahead of next week's poll. His speech was mainly centered around former President Nelson Mandela - and that he symbolized freedom of choice.
Maimane once again accused the ANC of failing to live up to its promises and turning its back on the people.
"Back in 1994 we were all promised a better life and we believed that we could get that better life. But I am afraid today, that better life has only become a better life for some. The ANC has turned its back on everything that Nelson Mandela stood for", Maimane said.
Maimane also took a swipe at the EFF, saying that the DA would change the country through the ballot box and not through the barrel of a gun.
"Actually we can make a change. We can choose a government that will stop corruption and a government that will deliver better services for all the people in South Africa. And there can only be one government that can do that. I think you know what that government is", Maimane proclaimed.
