Maimane to lay criminal charges against Zuma

DA leader Mmusi Maimane will lay charges against President Jacob Zuma in terms of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act tomorrow.

Maimane says the Public Protector's State of Capture report points to a prima facie criminal case that must be investigated.

"In terms of this Act, there is a duty on persons in position of authority who know or ought reasonably to have known or suspected that any other person has committed an offence under the Act to report such knowledge or suspicion to the police. The Act also requires only evidence of suspicion for charges to be laid. It is the police's responsibility to investigate these allegations," says Maimane.

Maimane says the DA will unravel President Zuma's criminal network by using all political, legal and parliamentary channels.

"President Zuma and his cabal must be held responsible for undermining the integrity of the state, through his illegal programme of state capture," says Maimane.
