Maimane lays criminal charges against Zuma
Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
DA leader Mmusi Maimane has laid criminal charges against President Jacob Zuma and other officials relating to allegations made in the Public Protector's State of Capture report.
Maimane laid the charges at the Rosebank Police Station in Johannesburg.
"We have requested that, in addition to President Zuma and the Guptas, the police investigate possible wrongdoing on behalf of the board members of Eskom, Mosebenzi Zwane, Salim Essa, Linda Mabaso, Malcolm Mabaso, Eric Wood, Kamal Singhala, Johannes Motseki, Pushpaveni Govender, Des van Rooyen, Duduzane Zuma and others," says Maimane.
Maimane says President Zuma is being protected by state institutions, which should be protecting the people of South Africa.
He says, although the issue of state capture goes beyond President Zuma, he must still account for his misdeeds.
"The police station here will compile the docket so that it is handled by the provincial police. We will not rest until Jacob Zuma accounts for, what we believe are, very strong criminal acts. These are acts of corruption which steal away from the livelihood of the people of our country and we believe action must be taken," says Maimane.
Maimane says they will not wait for the state capture report to undergo its own judicial process.
"That's a separate process entirely," says Maimane.
