Maimane: South Africans are being milked, not the cows

The Chief Financial Officer at the Free State Development Corporation Sheppard Moyo says he has no idea how much money has been lost at the controversial Vrede dairy farm.

The farm has featured in the #GuptaLeaks emails, with allegations that millions of rands were diverted from the project to pay for the lavish wedding of Vega Gupta in 2013.
Democratic Alliance (DA) leaders Mmusi Maimane and South Africans who were supposed to have benefitted from the project visited the site this morning.
Moyo says he doesn't know who owns the farm.
"I don't have an idea of the contract (with the Gupta family) that you are talking about, as this is the first time that I am hearing it from you," Moyo told Maimane.
Maimane believes that the dairy farm is being used by the Free State provincial government to launder money.
"It is a scam and here is what even more sad: As a black South African we feel that our people are being defrauded because publicly they want to tell the people it is 51% owned (by the community), but money is being expatriated elsewhere. It is a Gupta beneficiary."
The farm, established in 2013 by the provincial government, was meant to empower local residents by giving community members a 51% stake, while the Gupta-owned Estina company had a 49% stake.
After extensive investigations, we now know that the awarding of the contract to Estina failed to follow many standard practices. #VredeFarm pic.twitter.com/0Ecv3KkJxG
