City Power on Monday responded to a power outage in the Johannesburg CBD, which also affected major hospitals and clinics.

Affected facilities included Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, Parklane Hospital, Brenthurst Clinic, and Rand Clinic.
The power disruption at Ridge Substation was reportedly triggered by a burnt feeder board.
City Power Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said customers in Berea, Hillbrow, Parktown, and surrounding areas have also been impacted.
“The affected healthcare services in the area have been engaged and notified that during this period they must use alternative methods like generators to enable them to continue providing the much-needed services to their patients.
“We assure our affected customers that the teams are working diligently on resolving this. The estimated time of restoration will be communicated in subsequent updates.
“The power system remains constrained. We urge customers to reduce their electricity consumption to prevent overloading the system,” added Mangena.
