Makhosi Khoza joins Outa

Former African National Congress (ANC) MP Makhosi Khoza has joined The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa).

OUTA

Khoza, who founded the African Democratic Change (ADeC) before retiring from politics in April, will head up the organisation’s new local government programme.

The announcement was made in Johannesburg on Friday.

"The local government sphere is riddled with corruption, incompetency and poor services. On average a municipality derives about 90% of its revenue from its local citizens and business, yet all these financial resources, are often pumped into areas that aren’t a priority as local citizens. It’s all these factors that have led one to join Outa," said Khoza.

She decried the fact that citizens no longer have faith in politicians.

"If we are to be honest, in 2014, out of 26 million voters, we only had about 14 million people who voted. The ANC only got about 11 million votes, which is less than 50% of 26 million registered voters. To me it says there is a disconnect and therefore we need to strengthen civil society."
