Makhubo: ANC committed to rooting out corruption
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Newly elected Johannesburg Mayor Geoff Makhubo says the African National Congress (ANC) is committed to rooting out corruption.
Makhubo made the remarks on Thursday, a day after being elected as mayor by the city council following the resignation of Herman Mashaba.
“We remain committed to dealing with and uprooting corruption in the City. Statements have been made that R34 billion has been lost through corruption and despite all our efforts to obtain evidence in this regard, none of this has been forthcoming,” said Makhubo.
The newly elected mayor has been embroiled in allegations of corruption, which he has denied.
Mashaba laid charges against Makhubo, claiming that he pocketed R30 million from a business dealing with Gupta linked company Regiments Capital.
However Makhubo is adamant that all dealings he had with Regiments were above board.
