Makhura flags Joburg CBD as coronavirus hotspot

Gauteng Premier David Makhura says the inner city of Johannesburg can become a hotspot for coronavirus infections.

The area has a total of 202 active cases.

Makhura briefed the media on Friday on the progress of coronavirus interventions in Gauteng.

 

He announced that the Rosebank area. moving to the Joburg CBD and Mayfair, is of great concern as 132 people are infected with the virus.

 

This is followed by Roodepoort in the west, with 102 infections.

 

"Anything at that level once it gets to 100 we watch those cases from 10 but when it gets to 100 then it becomes a big concern for us," said Makhura.

 

"We have another area, these are the subdistricts, where we have 101 cases and that is the Sandton, Alexandra, Orange Grove, Wynberg area."
