Makhura vows to review contracts with Bosasa

Gauteng premier David Makhura has promised to review all provincial government contracts with controversial facilities management company Bosasa.
Makhura made the announcement at his State of the Province Address in Alberton on Monday.
“Madame Speaker, I have asked the Executive Ethics Council to review any business that the provincial government has ever done with Bosasa and advise the council accordingly. The allegations coming out of the Zondo commission of inquiry are too serious to ignore.”

The announcement comes hot on the heels of an announcement by African Global Operations, which was formerly known as Bosasa, that it has filed for voluntary liquidation following a decision by FNB and Absa to close its bank accounts.
Bosasa has been embroiled in allegations of state capture, after its former COO Angelo Agrizzi revealed how the company allegedly bribed government officials.
Makhura says his government will crack down on officials involved in corruption and will also probe service providers implicated in unethical business practices.
“More importantly, the council advised the provincial government in how to deal with allegations of unethical business practices levelled against service providers such as KPMG, McKinsey and SAP. Consequently, the executive council took firm decisions to discontinue doing business with service providers involved unethical or corrupt practices.
“We remain unshaken in our quest to make Gauteng a corruption-free zone where integrity and ethics reign supreme.”
