Makhura wants SIU to probe e-Government tender
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Gauteng Premier David Makhura wants the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate the department of e-Government amid allegations of the irregular awarding of a tender.
City Press reported on Sunday that the department is being accused of using coronavirus to rush through a big information technology contract without proper tender processes.
The newspaper claims the R30 million contract to provide Gauteng’s e-government department with IT services, including cybersecurity, was concluded within 24 hours.
Makhura says he views the allegations in a serious light.
“Over the years, we have done tremendous work to promote clean governance and ethical leadership in Gauteng. The introduction of the open tender system and the ethics and anti-corruption panel is about eliminating corruption.
“The provincial government will continue acting decisively on the allegations of corruption.”
