Makwarela asks court to relax bail conditions
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The fraud case against former Tshwane mayor Murunwa Makwarela has been postponed to June.
Makwarela made a brief appearance in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria on Wednesday.
He has been charged with two counts of fraud.
The first charge relates to the R1.45 million remuneration he received while he was the speaker of the council and mayor of Tshwane after producing a forged court rehabilitation notice.
The second charge relates to the forged insolvency clearance certificate that he submitted to the council while he was the mayor.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanajana says the matter was postponed for an application to amend his bail conditions, and for his new legal representative to come on record.
Makwarela, who wants his bail conditions to be relaxed, is expected to be back in court on 2 June.
