Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Several people have died following a malaria outbreak in Limpopo, the provincial health department has confirmed.
Limpopo is experiencing an alarming increase in Malaria cases.
Provincial health department spokesperson Thabiso Teffo says: "We can confirm there are fatalities as a result of malaria. We calculate the fatalities as a percentage."
He confirms 1% of the total cases reported have resulted in death.
The department had been suffering a shortage of medication at some clinics, resulting in patients having to move to other areas for treatment.
Teffo says there had been an international challenge with access to the medication.
"We have since received the medication. It has been delivered to our clinics."
