Julius Malema was re-elected uncontested as president for a third term after being nominated by a delegate from the Northern Cape.

Godrich Gardee, a close ally of Malema, has been elected as the new deputy president.

The position had been vacant since Floyd Shivambu’s move to former President Jacob Zuma’s MK Party.

Gardee faced a challenge from Esther Molepo, a delegate from his home province of Mpumalanga, who nominated herself for the role.

However, she did not secure enough support to meet the nomination threshold.

Although the deputy president position was initially thought to be contested by former national spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, he was notably absent from the conference.

During a media briefing on Saturday, Malema confirmed that Ndlozi is not present at the conference.

It is understood that Ndlozi was suspended for failing to inform Malema about Shivambu’s plans to leave the party and for not publicly defending the EFF when it was under attack.

Marshall Dlamini and Omphile Maotwe retained their positions as secretary-general and treasurer-general, respectively.

The party’s former spokesperson, Leigh-Ann Mathys, has been elected as the deputy secretary-general, and Nontando Nolutshungu is the new national chairperson.

The delegates also elected additional members of the CCT.

This includes Poppy Mailola who was the deputy secretary general and former National chairperson, Veronica Mente.
