Malema: EFF warned about 'delinquent' Zuma

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says he is happy about the way President Jacob Zuma is treating the African National Congress (ANC).

Malema was addressing media on Monday afternoon.

It comes amid high-level ANC meetings to discuss President Zuma's future, with reports that the party's leadership has asked him to step down ahead of this week's State of the Nation Address (SONA).

"I am very happy how this man is treating this ANC, it is very nice. When we said the same things they are saying to him, they protected him.

"When you are told in the township that your child is a criminal and stealing from people and you protect him, that your child went to rape people there you protect him and even serve as an alibi and say that he was at home. Wait until he does that to you. That is what the ANC is confronted with today. We warned them about this delinquent."

Malema says the EFF will not allow President Zuma to address the National Assembly on Thursday.

"South Africans do not want a criminal to deliver SONA. President Jacob Zuma must be removed through a motion of no confidence."

Last week, six opposition parties wrote to Speaker Baleka Mbete requesting a debate on a vote of no confidence in President Zuma.

Mbete confirmed the motion is set to be debated in the National Assembly on February 22.
