Malema - Not even white hobos support land expropriation

The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, says he has yet to see any white person support the expropriation of land without compensation.

The EFF held a joint press briefing with the Congress of Traditional Leaders (Contralesa) in Braamfontein on Thursday.

"I am still to see a white person support the expropriation of land without compensation.

"I just need one," said the EFF leader.

"Even a white hobo cannot imagine black people owning the land. Because you are so dirty you will collapse the economy... that's what they say about us."

The EFF briefing comes amid public hearings on the possible amendment of Section 25 of the Constitution, to allow for expropriation without compensation, as well as a land imbizo hosted by Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

Contralesa came out in full support of the EFF's stance that Section 25 be amended.

"Contralesa and the EFF are in full agreement that Section 25 of the Constitution must be amended to allow for the expropriation of land without compensation.

"We further agree that the state should be the overall custodian of South African land," said Contralesa secretary-general Zolani Mkiva.

Malema dismissed claims that South Africa would become like Zimbabwe if land was to be expropriated.

"That which we are doing now, I have yet to see a person who  is going to show us that this was done in Zimbabwe. It has never even done in Zimbabwe the consultations and the involvement of everyone and allowing those who have the land to come and insult you.”

Contralesa and the EFF will be holding a joint land summit in the next two months to discuss the issue of land expropriation.
