Malema ‘ready’ to defend Indian remarks in court
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says if someone wants to drag him to court over his controversial comments about racism in the Indian community, they must do so.
“If they take us to court about what we said about Indians and the courts want to silence us – let them do it,” Malema said to his supporters following a swift appearance in the Newcastle Magistrate's court on Monday.
The court case relates to the contravention of the Riotous Assemblies Act when Malema allegedly incited people to occupy land illegally in 2016.
It was postponed to 25 February 2019.
Malema repeated his comments that “indeed majority of Indians are racists, we did not say all Indians”.

He says the truth is the only way to unite South Africa.
His original comments sparked a public outcry but Malema believes the furore is proof of the “institutional racism” that exists in the country.

“It is the truth when it is said by a white person. It is the truth when it is told by an Indian person. But if its told by a person of a lower class, it’s unexpectable.”
