Malesela Teffo violated legal rules, regulations - Legal Practice Council
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Advocate Malesela Teffo can appeal his disbarment, but the Legal Practice Council says it will oppose such a move on the basis of him being a threat to the public who've gone to him for legal assistance.
Teffo was on Friday struck off the roll of advocates by the High Court in Pretoria.
The council approached the court to have him suspended or removed after receiving 22 complaints about his conduct.
Teffo was representing four of the five accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
In July, he withdrew from the case, citing harassment and threats. He unsuccessfully tried to return to the case last month.
Legal Practice Council spokesperson Kabelo Letebele says complaints about Teffo go back to 2019.
"The way he behaved, not responding and not submitting information, not assisting clients that had mandated him to assist them. Our view as the council was that he had actually contravened the rules and regulations that are expected of all legal practitioners."
