The Mall of Africa has confirmed no cars were stolen on its property on opening day.
However, according to reports on social media multiple vehicles had been stolen at the new mall in Waterfall in Midrand.
The biggest single phase mall in Africa opened its doors to heavy traffic congestion and 104 000 shoppers.
The mall's brand manager Vanessa Fourie says: "The cars stolen were all parked on roads and areas near to the mall and not in designated mall parking areas.
"No one has reported any incidents of car theft to mall management."
Shoppers have been urged to only use designated mall parking bays.
Midrand police said they would release a statement on Thursday evening, but were not immediately available for comment.
