The struggle icon passed away at the age of 81.

Meanwhile, the United Nations also held a memorial service in New York.

"Mama Winnie, as she was affectionately known, was a towering figure in the struggle against apartheid," said UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. "The outpouring of condolences since her passing shows what an enormous impact she had, not only on the people of South Africa and of the African continent, but for millions around the world."

Among those expected to address the service include her daughters, grandchildren and political leaders.

EFF leader Julius Malema, and senior ANC officials Jeff Radebe and Fikile Mbalula are also expected to pay tribute while President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy.
