The man accused of gunning down the Sakhumzi Restaurant manager appeared in the Orlando Magistrate's Court today.
Njabulo Ngubane (24) is accused of shooting and killing Khwezi Hudson in a botched robbery at the restaurant in Vilakazi Street in Soweto last month.
Ngubane has asked for legal assistance.
The case has been postponed to 22 February for a formal bail application.
The State has indicated it will oppose bail.
Ngubane was arrested along with another person yesterday morning.
However, in a statement police confirm the second suspect Mduduzi Ngcobo - who was arrested in KwaZulu-Natal - is not linked to the murder.
He was allegedly involved in a robbery which occurred in November.
