Major Thulani Zwane said the 46-year-old suspect was arrested last week for allegedly stealing 13 cattle from Matatane farm. The man appeared in court on Monday and was remanded in custody until June 12 for bail application.
Zwane said police received a tip off about a vehicle loading cattle at the farm. “The members started to look for the vehicle and it was spotted with three occupants.
“It was searched and two suspected stolen cattle were found. The occupants were questioned and they told the police that they bought cattle from a known person. The members followed their alibi that led to the arrest of the suspect. The cattle were stolen from Matatane farm and recovered before the owner knew that his cattle were stolen.”
The owner of the farm opened a case of theft of 13 livestock at Dundee police station.
“The suspect was charged accordingly. Through further investigation nine cattle were found at suspect’s place on Monday in Nquthu area. The victims positively identified the cattle as his property.” ANA
