Man arrested for allegedly raping niece
A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his niece, police in Gauteng say.
Johannesburg central police say the suspect had been arrested in Rosettenville late on Tuesday night.
Police spokesperson Xoli Mbele says it is alleged that the suspect raped the 12-year-old girl on Monday.
"The girl told her parents the next morning that her uncle raped her. She was taken to hospital where doctors confirmed that she was raped," Mbele says.
The incident comes 16 days into Women's Month in South Africa.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
